ZINA BERRADA    |    LEED GA, CPHD   |    [she/her]

In one sentence
I am a designer, researcher, and environmental design specialist with six years of experience working with architects and academics across Canada, the UK, and the US focusing on the intersection between architecture, environmental design, and social justice.

Mission statement
I believe that we must use our creativity and agency to design places that consider the embodied labour, energy, carbon, and justice of architecture. It is time to reject nondescript globalized architecture and fight — not contribute to — climate and human crises by using quantitative and qualitative data to build adaptable and resilient buildings that respond to the needs, culture and climate of their surroundings and communities.

Education
I hold a Master of Architecture from Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation and a Master of Science in Sustainable Environmental Design from the Architectural Association School in London. Prior to that, I graduated from the University of Montreal with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture.

Lectures & Publications
I’ve presented and published a number of articles and papers on subjects related to passive designs and the social impact of construction at various conferences, including at the AIBC conference, the CAGBC Building Lasting Change conference, BUILDEX, the North America Passive House conference, Earth USA 22’ conference, and lately at the ACSA/AIA 23’ conference (see all presentation titles and conferences on my resume).
